Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Barrier Rail Project

The Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit is an essential public infrastructure project led by the City of Santa Cruz Public Works Department. Designed to improve the bridge’s safety and long-term durability over the Santa Cruz Harbor, the construction has temporarily restricted traffic flow and accessibility to nearby Seabright businesses. Many local business owners have reported challenges such as reduced foot traffic, limited parking due to detours, and decreased sales during construction months.

To address these impacts, the City of Santa Cruz has partnered with GetVirtual to launch a digital recovery and awareness campaign, with the potential for expanded support as the project progresses.

The Seabright Project is a collaborative initiative between GetVirtual, a UCSC-based nonprofit program, and the City of Santa Cruz. The goal is to support businesses in the Seabright neighborhood affected by the ongoing Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit Project (2025–2028). Through digital assistance, marketing support, and community engagement, GetVirtual aims to help these businesses maintain visibility, attract customers, and continue to thrive throughout the construction period.
